There has been a lot of speculation online in various communities on whether or not Bloodborne will receive a sequel. Some fans do not want to see a sequel as they see Bloodborne as “self-contained”, whereas the majority do want to see a second installment for 2015’s beloved game. FromSoftware has put Dark Souls on hold, but has not said a peep about Bloodborne. In fact, it was just rumored that FromSoftware is working on a Dark Fantasy Action RPG for consoles. Not only is that rumor making the rounds, but FromSoftware president and respected developer, Hidetaka Miyazaki, mentioned that three games are in development…
…Some of those are dark fantasy, some of those could be a mech [game] – that’s one thing. The second thing is that one of the new titles I’ve been working on will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner.
A dark fantasy action RPG that could meet the fan’s expectations honestly sounds like a sequel to Bloodborne. Besides, it wouldn’t make much sense to not capitalize on the success of Bloodborne (one of 2015’s biggest hits met with high praise, and a new best selling IP for Sony).
Anyways, it looks like the speculation may be able to be put to sleep, as Thomas Mahler of Moon Studios (Ori & The Blind Forest) is 99% sure we will see a sequel announced at this E3.
I’m 99% certain we’ll see it 🙂
No one exactly knows if Thomas is just adding fuel to the “hype train” for a sequel to one of 2015’s most beloved games. He only dropped in to mention that and has left the thread. However, Thomas being a game developer and one with connections, it is very possible he knows of some new games in development and is credible.
Anyhow, with Thomas being an active member of NeoGAF, he should know that there is a very strict policy on insider information. In case an “insider” post lies, tries to deceive others, or the information posted is not true, that insider is usually permanently banned. As Thomas is an active poster on GAF, I do not think he would be joking about something like this. Personally, I would absolutely love to see a Bloodborne 2. That would make my E3, for sure. In fact, I think it would make nearly everybody’s E3.
