Dark Souls 3 magic system has been completely revised to strike a balance to Demon’s Souls.

Good lord, this is something that will split the magic casters. Dark Souls 3 was confirmed today by GameInformer to overhaul it’s magic system.

GameInformer recently visited FROMSOFTWARE and had a discussion with President and Game Director of both Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, Hidetaka Miyazaki. Some insight was given on some of the game’s core mechanics, as mentioned in the previous article we just published.

Miyazaki has stated that FROMSOFTWARE are working very hard to distinguish differences between each spell, miracle, and hex. However, the biggest statement of them all is how the magic system will be implemented this time around in Dark Souls 3. Rather than the typical Dark Souls 1 & 2 formula where you have limited uses and recharge and a bonfire, you will now have a magic bar similar to Demon’s Souls. Miyazaki states his reasons below…:

“By changing the magic management system to an MP scheme, options and freedom of utilization should increase. This way we can better clarify the differences in managing items and magic”

While magic casters of Demon’s Souls may find this exciting, FROM are more than likely looking at ways to balance the new stat (the magic bar in Demon’s Souls was unbelievably broken). I personally hope that the new magic bar will not be as overpowered as in Demon’s Souls. Magic will probably not be an almighty force anymore if you can simply recharge the bar by farming magic potions. I do hope that FROM can really balance the magic usage and power, as magic can be seen as very broken in Dark Souls 2. The players that go with pure melee (or a balance between melee, ranged, and sorcery) should be able to challenge magic casters.

They have to balance it, unless they want another Demon’s Souls situation again.

I actually like this change. Magic in Demon’s Souls was too much fun.
